Carnival Cruise: Louisiana to Mexico
Our first cruise—New Orleans to Cozumel and Progresso—was a mix of surprises, lessons, and unforgettable moments.
Boarding a massive ship isn’t as simple as showing up. Lines, ID checks, and checkpoints reminded us that preparation and patience are essential for smooth travel. Inside, the staterooms were small but functional, and the food… well, edible at best. Activities were abundant—mini-golf, shuffleboard, arcades, pools—but navigating the crowds took strategy. We learned that sometimes finding a quiet, overlooked deck can make all the difference.
Shore excursions are where the real adventure—and personal growth—happens. In Cozumel, helping baby sea turtles reach the ocean was transformative: nothing beats stepping in to protect something fragile, seeing effort turn into impact. In Progresso, we also experienced local culture firsthand, from homemade tortillas to Mayan ruins—reminding us that curiosity and respect for new environments are part of every successful journey.
Was the cruise perfect? No. Was it worth it? Absolutely. It taught us the importance of preparation, adaptability, and embracing unexpected opportunities. For families with kids, or anyone seeking a lively, activity-packed trip, this cruise hits the mark. For first-time cruisers looking for calm luxury…maybe a different route.
