Back-up Plan in Action

Back-up Plan in Action

Around here, we always have a back-up plan.

That’s just how racing in sportsman class works—you don’t need a fancy, high-dollar race car. You just need a car that’s ready to go.

The rebuild on the Mustang hit another snag when we realized we didn’t pull the crank before ordering the bottom end kit. We assumed (never a great plan) that everything was stock since it had a standard bore.

Turns out… not even close.

  • Pistons: standard bore

  • Mains: standard

  • Rods: .010

I had already ordered standard everything, so now we’re sitting on a parts delay of 4–5 days waiting on bearings. That pushed us right out of the window to get the Mustang ready for this double-header points weekend.

Is that going to stop us? Not a chance.

Points are still getting chased. If we go rounds, that’s a bonus. If not, we still don’t leave empty-handed. And with the Bracket Finals as the goal this year in Spokane, every pass matters.

So here’s the pivot.

My wife is just going to take her Kia Sorento down and race it. Nothing fancy—just consistency, reliability, and showing up to get it done. No need to haul the motorhome or trailer either, which saves a ton on fuel this weekend.

I won’t be making the trip. She won’t need a crew chief, burnout help, or anything extra. I’ll stay back, work the land, and knock out a few things around the trailer.

On top of that, medically it’s probably the right call for me to stay put. Without the motorhome as a place to get out of the heat and reset, the weekend down there would be tough.

EcoFlow is helping my wife this weekend where I can’t, but I got her hooked up! Check out that article here.

Good luck, wifey. Go get it done.
