Just Another Trip to the Pacific Beach Cabin

Maybe I should have left the doors on. Oh well, it was a fun adventure without!

By the time Friday rolled around, I was itching for the weekend adventures ahead. It had been a long, brutal week at work, and by 2:30 PM, I was already counting down. At 4:30, I should have been climbing into the Jeep, firing it up, and rolling through the gates of Hell for a well-earned parole weekend.

That didn’t happen. I ended up leaving work over an hour late, raced home, handled a few things, grabbed the dog, and hauled ass for the Pacific Ocean. I needed some serious beach time with my friends.

The drive out was pleasantly uneventful—nice and relaxing. Doors off the Jeep, left foot hanging out on the rock slider, soaking in the 80-degree breeze. As I rolled through Aberdeen, I could feel that unmistakable coastal air. Yep, it was starting to get a little chilly.

I pulled into a gas station. What the hell? No fuel. Great. Across the street, 7-11. So, sorry Jeep—you got mystery gas, and I got a crap dinner: a big hot dog and some candy.

Once back on the road, I took the back roads to the cabin. The closer I got to Pacific Beach, the foggier and colder it became. I was grateful for that sweatshirt I threw on at the gas stop. About five miles from my buddy’s place we affectionately refer to as “the cabin”, the wipers came on, and so did the heater. Yup—definitely made it to the Washington coast.

Last night, we celebrated my buddy’s birthday. Good times all around. Don’t ask how old he is—doesn’t matter, he’s old. We made him a badass cake. Well, Safeway made the cake; we just decorated it. A stripper pole with a couple of flexible Barbie dolls in tiny outfits served as the dancers. By the time Dave and Chris rolled in on their bikes, it was late, but he made it out on his birthday nonetheless.

Now, as I sit here writing this, I seem to be the only one awake. Fed the dog, took her for a walk around town, then down to the beach. Next up: breakfast, a little chaos to wake these assholes, and then—let the day begin!
