Build Systems That Work
Design. Build. Maintain. Systems that keep you independent.
What Off-Grid Means at BTB
Off-Grid isn’t weekend glamping or off-the-shelf kits. It’s full-time self-sufficiency, making sure our life on the road and on the property is supported by systems that work reliably in real-world conditions. Every setup is designed to keep us operational, independent, and prepared — rain or shine, travel day or workday.
Operating Environment & Constraints
Full-time motorhome living
Towing and deploying systems on the road
Pacific Northwest climate: rain, mud, and cold snaps
Property work just beginning: planning for water, power, and off-grid sustainability
All systems must be repairable, maintainable, and practical under real-world conditions
Current Onboard Systems
Power & Energy: Solar, batteries, portable generators
Water & Sanitation: Onboard tanks, basic filtration, manual backups
Climate & Heating: Wood stove, propane heater, insulated living space
Storage & Organization: Modular, accessible, and field-ready
Planned / In-Design Systems for the Property
Expanded water capture and filtration
Solar + battery for independent property power
Off-grid climate solutions for bathhouse and outbuildings
Storage, drying, and supply systems optimized for multi-structure use
Integrated layouts that keep maintenance and access simple
Design Principles
Systems must be repairable and field-serviceable
Redundancy over convenience; simple fallback systems over complex automation
All designs are based on practical, lived experience, not theory
Failures are treated as data, not setbacks
If a system only works when everything is perfect, it’s not ready for off-grid life.
This is the foundation of Off-Grid at BTB — starting on the motorhome and expanding to the property with practicality, independence, and operational reliability guiding every design decision. Scroll down to see posts documenting our journey as systems come online.
