Adventure & Preparedness

Go farther. Be ready for what happens next.

The best adventures don't always go according to plan.

A tire goes flat miles from nowhere. The weather turns. The truck won't start. You get stuck behind an accident on a mountain road. Somebody gets hurt. Your phone loses service. A winter storm moves in faster than expected.

That's where preparedness stops being a checklist and becomes part of the adventure.

At Bigfoot Trails Basecamp, we don't believe in building a giant pile of gear just in case something happens. We believe in knowing where we're going, understanding what can go wrong, carrying the right equipment for the conditions, and knowing how to use it when we need it.

Because we've been there.

Adventure & Preparedness is where we take the lessons that come from real trips, real vehicles, real mistakes, and real situations and turn them into something useful.

Not survival fantasy.

Not a generic list of 47 things you supposedly need.

Real-world preparedness for people who actually go places.

Preparedness Starts With Where You're Going

There isn't one perfect emergency kit.

What makes sense for a summer motorcycle trip through the desert isn't necessarily what belongs in a Washington winter vehicle. An RV traveling across the country has different needs than a truck heading down a forest road. A day trip has different risks than spending a week off-grid.

Your vehicle, location, weather, terrain, distance, season, and activity all change what you should carry.

That's why our preparedness kits are built around specific situations instead of generic shopping lists.

Washington Winter Vehicle Kit
What we think belongs in a vehicle when winter weather, mountain roads, remote highways, and long distances can turn a normal trip into a problem.

RV & Off-Grid Preparedness
Practical things we've learned about staying safe, functional, and connected when the RV becomes the basecamp.

Get-Home & Roadside Preparedness
Because getting stranded isn't the same thing as preparing for the apocalypse. It's about having enough knowledge and equipment to handle the situation in front of you.

More kits will be added as we build them from actual experience.

The Story Comes First

We don't build preparedness lists because somebody told us what should be on them.

We build them because something happened.

A trip exposed a weakness.

A piece of equipment proved its worth.

Something we thought we needed turned out to be useless.

Something we didn't have became the thing we wished we'd packed.

Those experiences become stories.

Those stories become lessons.

And the lessons become preparedness kits that other people can actually use.

That's the BTB approach.

Read the Stories Behind the Kits

Start with the real experiences that shaped what we carry, what we recommend, and what we've learned along the way.

Guides From the Basecamp

Some lessons are too useful to leave buried inside a story.

We've turned some of them into downloadable guides designed to be useful before you leave home — not after something has already gone wrong.

Off-Grid & RV First Aid Guide

A practical first-aid reference built around RV travel, basecamp living, and being away from immediate help.

Get Home Bags Aren't Go Bags

A look at what a get-home bag actually is, what it isn't, and how to build one around your real situation instead of somebody else's disaster scenario.

Before You Buy an RV

Buying an RV is a lot like buying a house on wheels. There's a lot more to inspect than whether everything looks good when you walk through the door.

This guide covers the things we wish we'd paid more attention to before buying ours.

Preparedness Isn't About Expecting the Worst.

It's about being able to deal with whatever actually happens.

That's the difference.

We're going to keep building this section around real trips, real vehicles, real mistakes, and real lessons — from Washington roads to long-distance travel and the places in between.

No apocalypse fantasy.

No fear-based shopping lists.

Just practical information for people who like going places.

Adventure isn't a product. It's an experience.

And being prepared means you get to keep having them.
